Nickleback brought the house down
Hadestown was an unbelievable concert experience, with their front man showcasing natural comedic talent and putting everyone at ease. The band considers Tacoma their "home" town on the tour, and the dome was the perfect venue for them -- small enough to still be somewhat intimate, and with great acoustics.
The special effects were extremely well done to support the show, not eclipse it, and the band's sheer musicality was amazing. They included tributes to Garth Brooks that had the whole audience singing along, as well as segments from Bon Jovi and Guns & Roses.
Shinedown undoubtedly shined as a jewel in the rough at their opening act, and I doubt it will be much longer before they're headlining on their own. I know I'd snatch up a ticket in a heartbeat. They were an awesome compliment to the show.
The "naughty" bits were tastefully done, allowing younger members of the audience to enjoy the show as well. The use of personal photographs during their hit "Photograph", including local shots, brought the house down.
If you have a chance to catch Hadestown live, it's worth every penny. My 13 yo daughter is already planning on attending, at her own expense, the next time they swing through town.
Great job, guys -- give yourselves a high five for your crew, and a pat on the back. They definitely earned it.
The city of Tacoma also receives high marks. Their light rail system made parking and getting to and from the venue a breeze. Support personnel was friendly and helpful. It was definitely worth the 70 mile trek, and I'll take it over the mess at the Key arena any day.
